A 1969, stainless steel vintage Omega Seamaster 120 watch, reference 166.027. The case measures 37 mm in diameter with 18mm lugs and Omega crown. The case is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss Made, Acier Inoxydable and numbered 166.027. The calibre 565, automatic movement is signed Omega with 24 jewels, quick date set and numbered, dating to 1969. The matte black dial, with original patina, has raised baton hour indicators, with centre-sweep seconds, with date aperture at 3 o’clock and fine steel lumed hands. The dial is signed Omega Automatic above the centre and Seamaster 120 below.
The Omega Seamaster may be most quickly recognized as the “James Bond watch,” but the watch’s history dates back to 1948 when it debuted in celebration of Omega’s 100th anniversary. The model was an immediate hit and became the brand’s best seller. Today it remains the oldest model in Omega’s current collection.
The Seamaster 120 was first produced in 1966, with both manual and automatic variants, both of which came in date and no-date references.
The calibre 565 movement was one of the last superior 500’s series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. It was the top-tier offering of the 500 series. It has 24 jewels and a quick-setting date and is arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from era.
