A classic rectangular wristwatch from Omega!
A 1938, stainless steel rectangular vintage Omega wristwatch. The case measures 22 x 40 mm (including lugs), with 16mm lug size. The case is signed Omega, Fab-Suisse, Acier Staybrite and numbered to the inside. The T-17 movement is signed Omega, with 15 jewels, numbered and has a protective cover. The silvered dial has black Arabic numerals with a subsidiary seconds dial and fine blued steel ‘pleines’ hands. The dial is signed Omega above the centre.
Omega Calibre T-17 movement
In the early 1930s, Omega introduced their excellent tonneau shaped calibre T-17 as an ideal movement for use within rectangular and other ‘shaped’ cases. The T-17 quickly gained a reputation for reliability and quality and today is one of the watchmaker’s most highly regarded vintage movements. This calibre was specially housed in a protective soft metal, anti-magnetic, movement cover.
