A rare stainless steel Omega ‘Medicus’ wristwatch from the 1930s, the highly collectable CK651!

A rare, 1936, stainless steel square vintage Omega ‘Medicus’ watch. The stainless steel case measures 26 x 36 mm (including lugs) with 18mm hooded lugs. The case is signed Omega, Fab, Suisse, Acier Staybrite and numbered. The manual wind, calibre 23.4 SC movement is signed Omega with 15 jewels and numbered. The silvered dial has Arabic numerals, centre sweep seconds dial and fine blued steel ‘modernes’ hands. The dial is signed Omega above the centre.

Omega Medicus

Designed in the 1930s as a doctor’s watch, featuring a large, central seconds hand, a rarity for the time. The inclusion of a prominently displayed seconds hand and a detailed minute track allowed doctors to measure a patient’s pulse with greater precision, using just one hand. This design was marketed to doctors as it was much easier to use than the more common small-seconds displays of the time. Omega list several models to which they attribute the name Medicus; for complete accuracy, though, it has to be said that there are independent historians who dispute this and maintain that there was only ever one, the CK 651.
