A stunning early Omega Seamaster 600 watch, with rare ‘cross-hair’ dial!

A 1967, round stainless steel vintage Omega Seamaster 600 watch. The case measures 34mm in diameter with 18mm lug size. The case is signed Omega Watch Company, Fab. Suisse , Acier Inoxydable, reference 135.011.  The calibre 611, manual wind, movement is signed Omega, Swiss, numbered, with 17 jewels. The silvered dial, ‘with cross hair’, has raised batons, centre sweep seconds, fine silver hands and date aperture at 3. The dial is signed Omega above the centre with Seamaster 600 below.

The Omega Seamaster

In 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary, Omega introduced the first Seamaster. 

The Seamaster was a product of war in a time of peace. It was a timepiece built to the specifications of soldiers at war, yet it could now enjoy more harmonious applications. The first Seamaster, advertised as a watch “made for a life of action”, could have been labelled as a strict dress watch if not for it’s ruggedness. One of the first watches to employ rubber gaskets, it featured water resistance generally unmatched by other watch brands. It’s accuracy was also of note given the precise, shock-proof, and amagnetic movement that powered it.

These Seamasters were offered mostly in steel and on straps, though some gold examples with matching bracelets were also made available. They remained a more elegant style of timepiece until 1957, when Omega first debuted the ‘professional trilogy; Omega Seamaster, Omega Railmaster and the Omega Speedmaster.

The Omega Seamaster watch has been a distinctive model for the Omega brand and continues to evolve, a true icon, and extremely collectable!
